헤럴드는 2023년 5월 24일(수) 서울신라호텔에서 'H.eco Forum (H.에코포럼) 2023' 을 개최합니다.

헤럴드는 우리 인류가 직면한 최대 위기인 ‘환경’에 주목해 왔으며, 3년 전 에코포럼을 신설해 대표 포럼으로 육성해왔습니다. 올해 포럼은 헤럴드 창사 70주년을 맞아 앞으로의 또다른 70년의 키워드인 환경(eco)의 가치를 전파하고, 환경 위기 극복을 위한 공존과 연대를 논의하는 자리가 될 것입니다. 특히 개최 3년만에 본격 on-site 형태로 진행 예정이오니 많은 관심 부탁드립니다.

H.eco Forum 2023 hosted by Herald Corporation will be held at The Shilla Seoul hotel on Wednesday, May 24, 2023. The Herald has been focused on the climate change, which is the greatest threat facing humanity and established the H.eco Forum to make it as a first step to bring together all stakeholders for the issue since 2011. In commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the Herald Corporation, the forum will discuss sustainable environment, the keyword of the next 70 years on the theme of 'Solution to the Environment Crisis: Coexistence and Solidarity.'

알리 타브리지는 넷플릭스 다큐멘터리 'Seaspiracy'의 감독이다. 타브리지는 복잡한 글로벌 문제를 탐구하고 이를 개선하기 위한 사명을 가진 다큐멘터리 제작사 Disrupt Studios의 창립자이며 지속 가능성, 환경보호, 인권, 동물의 권리, 음식의 미래에 대해 끊임없이 메시지를 보내고 있다. 타브리지의 다큐멘터리 영화 'Seaspiracy'는 넷플릭스의 전 세계 10대 인기 영화로 선정되었다. 다큐멘터리를 통해 바다의 플라스틱 쓰레기, 해양 동물에 대한 피해, NGO와 정부의 부패에 이르는 다양한 문제를 폭로했는데, 이에 지속가능성과 환경보호 분야에 있어 전세계의 찬사를 받았다. 현재 그는 해양 보존 운동의 세계적인 아이콘이며 지속가능성, 인권, 동물의 권리에 대한 통찰력으로 인기를 얻고 있는 연사이다. 현재 인간, 동물, 생태계의 건강을 보호하기 위한 목표를 가진 Disrupt 재단을 설립하여 운영하고 있다.

Ali Tabrizi is a self-taught Cinematographer, Presenter, and Director of Netflix’s groundbreaking documentary, ‘Seaspiracy’. He is Founder of Disrupt Studios and an inspiring speaker on sustainability, conservation, human and animal rights and the future of food. Tabrizi’s sensational film ‘Seaspiracy’ (March, 2021) has sparked debate across the world. The documentary, which investigates the environmental and ecological impact of the fishing industry, quickly climbed to Netflix’s Top Ten most popular films across the globe. Initially Tabrizi started the project as a means to show “how incredible the oceans are”, however the narrative of the film changed upon the shocking revelations that the fishing industry is the leading threat to our ocean. Tabrizi exposes a number of issues, ranging from the disposal of plastic trash such as fishing nets and the harm caused to marine animals as ‘bycatch’, to accusations of slavery and corruption within the fishing industry, NGOs and governments.
Ali Tabrizi received worldwide acclaim for his work on ‘Seaspiracy’, which has catapulted him into the centre of conversations around sustainability and conservation. He has become a figurehead for the Ocean Conservation and Plant Based movement and has inspired many others to follow suit, having exposed the realities of industrial fishing and farming practices. He is a highly sought-after speaker for his insights on sustainability, human rights, animal welfare and everything he has learnt during his career as a documentary filmmaker.

남성현 교수는 기후,생태,환경 분야의 대표적인 학자로 꼽히며 현재 서울대학교 지구환경과학부 교수로 서울대학교 해양환경관측연구실을 운영하며 바다 속에 투입된 여러 무인관측장비(해양로봇) 혹은 인공위성 등의 간접적인 원격탐사 방법으로 수집한 관측정보를 이용하여 물리적인 해양환경과 그 변동을 지배하는 역학 과정들을 규명하고 있다. 한반도 연안역과 동아시아 연해는 물론 태평양, 대서양, 인도양, 남극대륙 연안 해역에 이르기까지 다양한 연안과 지역해 및 대양에 관심을 두고있다.

남성현 교수는 <위기의 지구, 물러설 곳 없는 인간>, <2도가 오르기 전에>, <반드시 다가올 미래>,<천재지변에서 살아남는 법> 등의 저자이기도 하다.

Professor Nam SungHyun is one of the leading scholars in climate, ecosystems, and environmental studies and is currently a professor at the School of Earth and Environmental Science at Seoul National University. Leading the Ocean Observation Laboratory, he is currently identifying the marine physical environments and dynamics underlying marine physical processes using observational information collected by direct (in-situ) and indirect (remotely sensed) methods such as ship-based and unmanned measurements from underwater robots and satellites. Prof. Nam has interests in physical processes in various coastal and regional seas, and oceans, ranging from the coastal areas around the Korean Peninsula to the Pacific and Indian Oceans, and to the coastal seas around Antarctica. He is also the author of books for general public such as "Earth in crisis, Real threat to life (Korean)", “Below 2 degrees (Korean)”, “Certain Future Coming (Korean)”, and “Ways to survive under natural hazards”

줄리안 퀸타르트 / 방송인, 現유럽연합 기후행동 친선대사

Julian QUINTART / Belgian TV personality in Korea, Goodwill Ambassadors for the EU climate Actions

2004년도 벨기에에서 한국으로 온 줄리안 퀸타르트. 본업이 DJ였던 줄리안은 JTBC <비정상회담>에서 많은 사람들에게 방송인으로 알려졌다. 현재 JTBC의 <톡파원 25시>을 비롯해 다양한 방송에서 활약 중이며, Volunteer Korea (사단법인 주한외국인자원봉사센터) 공동창립자로서 활발한 봉사 활동을 이끌고 있다. 특히 환경에 관심이 많아 방송을 통해 얻은 목소리를 활용해 환경을 위한 많은 활동을 실천중이며, 그 결과 2016년 유럽연합 환경행동 친선대사에 임명되었고 현재까지 활동 중이다. 기후위기, 환경, 제로웨이스트, 비건, 채식 등에 대해 솔선수범하며 이에 대한 강연 또한 활발히 하고 있다.

Julian Quintart moved to Korea in 2004 from the quaint village of Sur la Heid in Belgium. Initially making a name for himself as a DJ, Julian quickly rose to prominence in South Korea through his appearances on JTBC's "Abnormal Summit" . At present, Julian actively participates in various television shows, including JTBC's "Talk Pawon 25" , and has co-founded the NGO Volunteer Korea to promote and facilitate volunteer activities for foreigners in South Korea. Passionate about environmental issues, Julian has leveraged his broadcasting influence to launch and participate in numerous campaigns raising awareness about environmental concerns. In recognition of his efforts, he was appointed as the European Union Environmental Action Goodwill Ambassador in 2016. Since then, Julian has actively delivered lectures on climate crisis, veganism, biodiversity, and zero-waste lifestyles, all the while leading by example.

알리 타브리지는 H.eco Forum 2023에서 해양 보존의 세계를 심도 있게 다룰 예정이다. 우리 인류의 행동과 신념이 바다로 뒤덮인 푸른 지구와 이 지구를 터전으로 삼고 있는 수 조(兆)마리의 해양 생물들의 생존에 미치는 상호 연관성을 연구하기 위해 전 세계를 항해한 ‘증인’으로서 그는 우리를 이 여정에 초대한다. 넷플릭스 다큐멘터리 ‘씨스피라시’가 세계적으로 미친 파급력을 소개함과 동시에 경찰에게 쫓기고, 야생동물 밀렵꾼들과 대치하고, 고래를 비롯한 많은 해양 생물들의 살육을 목격하는 등 화려하지만은 않았던 다큐멘터리 제작기를 이야기한다. 또한 알리 타브리지는 충격적인 사실과 놀라운 숫자들을 공유하고, 우리의 바다가 직면한 위협을 재확인 한다. 이러한 문제들은 믿기 어려울 만큼 많이 존재하고 복잡하지만, 그 해결책을 찾는 방법은 오히려 간단하고 쉽다. 바다를 복원하고, 해양 생물을 되살리고, 지구상의 모든 생명을 위해 더 아름답고 윤리적인 미래를 만들고자 하는 정부, NGO, 모든 대중들의 지지와 연대가 바로 그것이다.

In this speech, Ali Tabrizi dives deep into the world of ocean conservation, taking us along as witnesses to the journey he has made around the world to understand the cause and effects that our actions and beliefs are having on this blue planet, and the trillions of marine animals who call it home. Starting the talk by sharing some of the global impact stories of his film Seaspiracy, we are quickly drawn into the less glamorous side of making the movie; being followed by police, confronting wildlife traders,and witnessing the slaughter of countless whales and other marine creatures. Weaved into these anecdotes and stories, Ali shares the hard hitting facts, the mind blowing numbers, and offers a reality check to the situation we are facing at sea. These problems however, despite being incredibly numerous and complex, find solutions in simple and easy to digest steps which everyone from government, NGO’s, and members of the public can get behind in order to restore the seas, rebound marine life, and create a more beautiful and ethical future for all life on earth.

해양과학, 해양환경 위기를 진단하고 해법을 찾는 출발점
Ocean Science, Starting Point to Diagnose Marine Environmental Crisis and to Seek Solutions

남성현 교수는 H.eco Forum 2023에서 오늘의 해양환경 위기를 진단하고 그 해법을 찾아가기 위한 출발점으로서 해양과학의 중요성을 다루고자 한다. 산업화 이후 인류가 배출한 온실기체는 온실효과를 강화하며 지구에 열을 축적하며 “지구온난화” 또는 “지구가열화”로 불리는 지구 평균 온도의 상승을 가져왔는데, 이렇게 축적되고 있는 잉여 열(heat)의 대부분(90% 이상)은 해양에 흡수되고 있다. 이 강연에서는 기후위기에 따른 해양온난화(ocean warming), 해수면 상승(sea level rise), 해양산성화(ocean acidification), 해양저산소화(ocean deoxygenation)로 알려진 해양환경 변화를 소개하고, 그에 따른 해양생태계 위협과 적응에 대해 이야기한다. 마지막으로 유엔 해양과학 10년(UN Decade of Ocean Science, 2021-2030)을 선언하고, 해양과의 공존을 지향하는 인류가 그 출발점으로서 어떻게 해양과학을 활용하며 지속 가능한 미래를 열기 위해 함께 연대하는 것이 왜 중요한지 강조한다.

At the H.eco Forum 2023, Professor NAM SungHyun will discuss the importance of ocean science as a starting point toward diagnosing current status/crisis of marine environments and finding the solutions. Since the industrial revolution, greenhouse gases emitted by humans have intensified the greenhouse effect and contributed to the accumulation of heat on our planet, particularly our oceans. Due to this, the global surface temperature has increased, which has been referred to as "global warming" or "global heating", and most of the excess heat (more than 90%) has been absorbed by the oceans. Professor Nam will introduce changes in the marine environments, including, but not limited to ocean warming, sea level rise, ocean acidification, and ocean deoxygenation underlying the climate crisis. He will also talk about their threats to and adaptations of the marine ecosystems. Finally, he will point out how humans, who have declared the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science (2021-2030), use ocean sciences to coexist with the oceans, along with the importance of solidarity for a sustainable future.
